Frequently Asked Questions

(in order of frequency asked)

Q: "How do I join?"
A: You can join us at any of our events (Consoles On The Concourse is probably the best) by asking someone in charge (look for the orange lanyards) for a membership form, filling it out and paying the membership fee (see below). You'll receive a receipt and membership card in return, giving you access to our events!

Q: "I'm not a UTS Student, can I still join?"
A: Of course! It doesn't matter if you're a student of another university or not a student at all - you can still join. Many of our members are from different universities or are not students.

IMPORTANT: Many of our events extend into after-hours, which means that if you are not a UTS Student you'll need to be on a special list to be let into the premises and/or avoid being kicked out of the premises by Security after the University locks down. We need time to put you on this list, so please come and join well in advance (right now would be an excellent time :) and specify on your form that you're not a UTS Student.

Q: "Do I have to be a member of the UTS Union to join?"
A: No. Although being a member of the UTS Union Advantage Program will grant you half-price membership with us, you do not need to be a Union member to join!

Q: "How much does joining cost?"
A: Membership is $10 for the year, $5 if you're a member of the UTS Union Advantage Program.

Q: "What sort of things do you do?"
A: We game! We run many, many covering many areas of gaming both electronic and non-electronic. For example, we run

  • Weekly: Console Gaming sessions, PC LAN Gaming sessions, Non-Electronic Gaming sessions, general chillouts.
  • Less Regularly: LAN Parties (usually lasting 60 hours or so), City Raids, Modelling and Painting Days, Geek Bar Trivia Nights, International Talk Like A Pirate Day celebrations, Arcade Crawls and much much more.
Most of these events are, naturally, free.

We’re also a campus repository of nerd culture ("geek chic") of all kinds.

Q: "What games do you play?"
A: Potentially, everything. Not kidding. Our members' interests range all over the visible and invisible spectrum of gaming, and if you want to play something with us chances are that we'll happily accept!

Q: "How often do you do things?"
A: Often. Very often. We have several events running every week, plus our many other once-off events scattered throughout semester. Although not the largest, we're one of the most active clubs on campus.

Q: "Do I have to be a member to participate in your events?"
A: Yes. You need to be a member to participate in our events. That said - come along to any of our events and have a look at what we do first, if you like! If you do like, we'll sign you up.
