Event Suggestion Thread

Events are what EGG does. We love events! We run many regular events, but we want more! More!

So that's where you, our loyal members, come into the picture.

Pitch your ideas for events in this thread. Once-off, yearly, bimonthly, semiweekly, tridaily* - we don't care. If we like 'em and they promise to bring fun and glee for all involved, we might just run 'em. In return, you get to enjoy the event and the kudos for having come up with it.

Making your suggestions
  • Awesome
  • Detailed
  • Feasible
will increase their chances of becoming reality.

ogogog

Disclaimer: We won't promise anything. Loudness and clamouring alone is not sufficient reason for your suggestion to be implemented - no matter how many separate people do it. These things take time, so don't worry if we say nothing about your idea in particular.

There's always some lovely paintball :D

nothing like FPS with better graphics, force feedback and better controls... even if the setting and guns are a bit lame.

I would like to see a Pirate trivia/drinking/merrymaking on Talk Like A Pirate Day. Grab Engsoc, Progsoc or any other sock and we could have a decent event with a beer tab worthy of the Bradwarden himself.

Ideas include
++ freebee or drink if dressed as a pirate.
++ questions must be answered like a pirate.
++ a simple best costume prize.
++ wenching.
++ consoles on the side with pirate themed shenanigans.

this would be in addition to other EGG activities on the sacred day.

A smash bros brawl tournie?

it would be pretty simple to set up a I think, and I know alot of people who go to friday consoles like smash bros.

Winner gets a bowl of chocolate...or milkshakes, yep, a bowl of milkshakes would be awesome :) mmmm milkshakes.

I also liked the idea of an fps fragathon put down by chilli.

Also, is there being anything done about the xbox360 LAN that i suggested at the start of the year (and which was already being planned apparently)? You could put that together with the fps fragathon with Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 awesomeness, with some Gears of War as well, maybe even Gears of War 2 if its out (nothing like good ol chainsaw fun).

Not much of an event, but still an idea. How about barcodes on the membership cards? we have few facilities now that can hadle them, but a webcam and a laptop would eliminate hand registration at events.

Would the eye of judgement thing work with it?

I think tournments for any game would work pretty well. ie grab friends, rock with rockband, win stuff etc

Yeah, but don't you have to clean those things?

that depends, some party hire ppl will provide a game master who will be in charge of the suits, so they basically do everything including cleaning
and if that is available, whether the club decides to save a little extra and clean the damn sweaty smelly things after its all done

Not really an event, but still good. I was originally planning on using this for the anime club, but I think it would serve EGG better (though I still may use it for Anime next year).

Gaming Voting Competition

Summary
A weekly voting contest asking EGG members their opinions on Gaming issues (such as "which console is best?"), with the chance to win fantabulous prizes.

Pros:
- Easy and cheap to run
- Encourages interaction and debate between members
- Encourages repeat visits to Consoles
- Encourages forum use
- Gives something to do for those who are standing around to do

Cons:
- Requires a "weekly" prize
- Requires someone to count votes

Brief:
The gaming community is one of the most divided and opinionated group of people today. Whether it be loyalties to a specific console/company/series/game/character or a severe hatred of them, or whether it be fuelled by intelligent debate and bickering or pure fanboy/girlism, everyone has an opinion and (according to the 'tubes) likes to express said opinion. So why not take those opinions and open them upto debate, ridicule and competition.

Each week at consoles, hold a ballot for a specific question asking people their preferences and opinions. Get them to fill out a piece of paper stating their preference and a sentence or two on why. At the end of the day, tally the votes and post the results online. To further encourage people to vote, perhaps give a weekly prize (something trivial like a Conan figurine or something) to the best answer.

Hopefully, it will encourage talk and debate amongst members. By placing the ballot box at the admin desk, an exec could intercept them and question them on their vote, providing an opportunity for members to get to know the execs. Cheating, persuading, lying and general shenanigans are encouraged.

Example polls:
- Which current console is best?
- Which past console is best?
- Who is the most iconic Video Game Character?
- What genre of gaming is the best?
