Spam box and HTML

Postby Pro Victim on Tue Nov 18, 2008 3:26 pm

OK, Vlad mede a very good point. If I want people to use HTML tags in the spam box, I would have to have some referrence material. This post is it.

to create a link in html, the tags are used, like below:

Your Text Here

will show text reading [Your Text Here] that has an imbedded link to http://egg.org.au/forum
looking at the example tag, it can be seen that the command href="..." tells the html interpreter (in this case, your web broswer) where the link points to.

A similar tag is used to display an image: this tag is different in that it does not need the end placeholder.

will show an image of a cake. If the image cannot be shown, the image placeholder will have the text [the cake is a lie]. there will be NO visible border around the image.

if we combine the two tags like this

clicking on the image of the cake will take you to the wikipedia page for "cake". there will be no border around the image. It is fine to have the tags over several lines, as the compiler will recognise the link end tag as the last part.

Some words of warning:
1) make sure that you end the link, otherwise all text after your post will be part of the link to your website. This may result in the admins kicking you.
2) html version 4 and later calls for lower case tags. Upper case tags work, but are considered sloppy programming.
3) use your powers for the improvement of humankind.

people still have not posted links to 4chan yet, so they did not read this post, or they took point 3 seriously. Either way, why are you complaining?

hm. it appears nobody's read the thread? we may have been lucky this time :D

but the threat of 4chan links is ever-present. and if we ever see serge back here (where did he go? does anyone know? i'm sure i haven't seen him in at least 3 months), the threat of enormous images (possibly including 4chan links) rears its head once more.

post this twice to get a working HTML link tag to google
Code: Select all
&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.google.com&quot;&gt;Link Text Here&lt;/a&gt;

the first intermediate stage is this:
Code: Select all
<a href=&qout;http://www.google.com">Link Text Here</a>

the second intermediate stage is
Code: Select all
Link Text Here

which when posted a third time gives a link pointing at google.

ok. as may be seen from a little incident in the spambox today, i'm not as crash-hot with html tags as i thought i was. what's a good way to scale an image? i tried to use height and witdth %'s, but it seems it didn't work :S

my code was
Code: Select all

instead of setting the per cent size, drop the '%' to give the pixel size. My spambox breaking is often in the form of a table, as it is automatically added as a new line and left justified. a recommended small table is:
Code: Select all

Caption Here

This gives a picture with an embedded hyperlink, WITHOUT the blue border. Don't worry about the formatting stuff, that is what the egg CSS is for. Note: heading 1 is white text; Use heading 2 if you must.
